Missions of the Month: Respite of Shiawassee County

The mission of Respite of Shiawassee County is to give a gift of time and caring support to adults with persistent health needs and their families. Organized in 1995 as an independent non-profit organization, they provide volunteer in-home caregiving support for adults with persistent health needs and their families. Respite provides friendly companionship, assistance with grocery shopping, and transportation to appointments. They give respite to caregivers by giving them a break from their caregiving responsibilities and companionship to elders living alone for up to three hours a week. In addition, Respite aims to provide their volunteers with a positive experience, making them feel needed and successful.

We can help support this valuable resource in our community by collecting items from their 'wish list'. Items can be placed in the wicker basket in the church entryway.

• Postage Stamps

• Avery 8160 mailing labels

• #10 plain white envelopes

• A broom for cleaning the office

• Toilet paper & Paper Towels for the office restroom

• Donations of money to support a Respite family (If including with your check to the Church, indicate: Respite Volunteers)

These items will be donated to Respite of Shiawassee County in August. More information is available on their website which you may reach by using our Links & More tab at the top of this page.

Special Sunday Giving: Michigan UMC Conference Haiti & Liberia Covenant.

Almost 30 years ago, the Michigan Area Detroit and West Michigan conferences entered into a covenant relationship with the United Methodist Church of Haiti and the Liberian Annual Conference. Now merged, the Michigan Conference continues to maintain the covenant relationship with both Haiti and Liberia, reflecting a commitment to partnering with these countries in their missions and ministries. Annually a special offering is collected to support various projects within these partnerships, such as Bishop Judith Craig Children's Village and Haitian Assets for Peace International (HAPI). This year, Bishop Bard has designated 10% of the funds collected will go to US UMCOR Disaster Response and Recovery. Please consider giving to this Special Sunday Giving by earmarking a gift on your check. Normally this special giving collection is gathered in early May and sent with our Pastor to the Annual Conference. This year contributions from our church will be collected throughout June and will be sent to the Michigan Conference at the end June.
